Elective: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 Content: This course introduces the native and non-native speakers of Spanish to the basic grammatical skills of reading and writing. All language skills are emphasized: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Videos, CD & DVD tutors are used to introduce the beginning student to the Hispanic culture. As of 2009/2010 school-year, a foreign language can count as Communications credit. Only applies to 9th grade Fall 2009 and prior.
SPANISH II -- 1253

Elective: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
Prerequisite: Spanish I with a grade of "C" or better.
Content: In Spanish II, not only the practical conversational approach to Spanish learned in Spanish I, but also the adventure in friendship for the language and the people who speak it is continued. Having acquired a general basic vocabulary and a general understanding of the Spanish-speaking world, the student is now ready for idiomatic Spanish and a deeper insight into Spanish culture. These are found in the second year of Spanish. At the end of the second year, the student should be able to communicate with more complex grammatical skills and an acceptable unanglicized accent. Students should be able to write all that they can say, start letter writing, and read aloud an unfamiliar printed text.
SPANISH III -- 1254- HONORS
Elective: Grades 10, 11, and 12
Duration: All year Credit: 1 credit
Prerequisite: Spanish II with a grade of "C" or better and approval of Spanish III instructor
Content: Students in this independent student course will review previous grammatical skills and will be exposed to new skills and vocabulary for everyday and/or travel situations. Students will be required to utilize learned skills in oral as well as written exercises, tests and various projects.
SPANISH IV -- 1255- HONORS
Duration: All year Credit: 1 credit
Elective: Grades 11, 12
Prerequisite: Spanish III with a grade of "C" or better and
approval of Spanish IV instructor.
Content: Students in this independent study course will continue to review and apply previously learned grammatical skills, as well as learn new, more complex grammatical
structures. In addition, Spanish IV students will apply learned techniques when working with various pieces of Hispanic literature, taking oral quizzes, writing compositions, and working on projects.
NAVAJO LANGUAGE I -- 1232
Duration: All year Credit: 1 credit
Elective: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
Prerequisite: No understanding or beginning Level Navajo
Content: This course introduces non-native speakers of Navajo to the basic grammatical skill of oral language communication. All language skills are included: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Listening and speaking are emphasized at this level. All students, especially non-Navajo students are encouraged to take this class. Part of the Chief Manuelito Scholarship requirement. As of 2009/2010 school-year, foreign language can count as Communi-cations credit. Only applies to 9th grade Fall 2009 and prior.
NAVAJO LANGUAGE II -- 1233

Prerequisite: Navajo 1 and/or intermediate level of Navajo language proficiency
Content: The practical conversational approach to Navajo learned in Beginning Navajo is continued. At this level listening, speaking, and reading are emphasized. At the end of the second year, the student should be able to communicate with more grammatical skills.
NAVAJO LANGUAGE III - 1234

Prerequisite: Navajo II and/or Advanced Level Navajo Language Proficiency
Content: Previous grammatical skills will be utilized in listening, speaking, reading, comprehension, and writing. Speaking, reading, and writing are emphasized at this level. Students will utilize learned skills in oral and written exercises, tests, and various projects.
RUSSIAN I - 1299
Duration: All year Credit: 1.0 Elective: Grades 11 - 12
Prerequisite: None
Course introduces students to the basic skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - and to the basic structures of German taught within the cultural context. Emphasis will be placed on oral communication skills. A career awareness component is included which emphasizes the importance of Russian in the world.
