Beginning with 2008 graduates, drama completed satisfactorily for 2 years will fulfill a student's communication requirement for graduation at BHS.

INTRODUCTION TO THEATER -- 1111

Duration: 1 sem Credit: 0.5 credit

Elective: Grades 9 - 12

Prerequisite: None Lab Fee: $5 per sem.

Content: Drama I is an introductory course for acting and stagecraft. Students will learn the basic terminology and conventions of the theatre. Students will participate in main stage and class productions. We will study all aspects of theatre, including acting, improvisation, history, set design, set construction, costumes, makeup, and backstage crew responsibilities. Students will be introduced to software programs used to design sets and lighting. Attendance at some after-school rehearsals and participation in productions is mandatory.

DIRECTING & STAGE MANAGEMENT - 1115

Duration: Spring Semester credit 0.5

Prerequisite: Intro to Theatre

Elective: Grades 10-12 Lab Fee: $5 per sem.

Content: Students will learn principles and techniques of directing for the theatre. They will learn how to work with a stage manager to make a successful production. They will also learn how to be a stage manager for productions. Career opportunities will be discussed.

COSTUME DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION - 1118

Duration: Fall Semester credit 0.5

Prerequisite: Intro to Theatre

Elective: Grades 10-12 Lab Fee: $5 per sem.

Content: Students will learn the basic principles and terminology of costume design and will design costumes for realized and/or unrealized theatrical productions. Students will learn how to research costumes and make design choices based on the script. Students will also gain practical skills in costume construction.

MUSICAL THEATRE (Integrated Fine Arts) --1194

Duration: 1 semester Credit: .5 credit

Elective: Grades 9 - 12

Prerequisite: Intro to Theater Lab Fee: $5 per sem

Content: Students will receive instruction and training in the three main performance areas of Musical theatre: Acting, Singing, and Dance. Students will work with trained professionals in these areas and develop the skills needed to perform in musical theatre productions. Students will also study the history of Broadway.
